چکیده
Introduction The role of the interaction between serotonin-transporter-linked promoter region (5HTTLPR) and stressful condition in determining vulnerability to depression has been widely investigated. Nevertheless, empirical research provides contrasting findings. Recently, differential susceptibility environment model proposed a conceptual shift respect classical interpretation 5-HTTLPR: viewing short (s) long (l) allele not as associated different traits (respectively vulnerable or not), but plasticity levels (respectively, more less plasticity) and, thus, susceptibilities high low susceptibility). Objectives As 5-HTTLPR is involved plasticity, main goal present study demonstrate that polymorphism stress emerges when assessing its effects according temporal factors dynamic process perspective . Methods We explored our hypothesis, exploiting meta analytic approach. searched PubMed, PsychoINFO, Scopus EMBASE databases 1096 studies were identified screened, resulting 22 be included meta-analyses. applied DerSimonian Laird random-effects estimate crude odds ratios for risk 5HTTLPR we assessed heterogeneity using I² Cochran’s Q statistic. stratified staties (i) duration (i.e., chronic vs. acute stress) (ii) time elapsed end assessment within one year than year). Results When stratifying stress, effect x emerged only case (OR 1.43, 95%IC 1.16-1.77, I²= 52%, Q=25.25; Figure 1), with significant subgroup difference (p=0.004). stratification interval revealed intervals 1.23, 1.03-1-46, 67%, Q=39.35), though no subgroups was found. critical clearly considering stress: confirmed exclusively 1.53, 1.17-2.02, 45%, Q=10.94; 2) found (p=0.01). Relational security moderates the effect of serotonin transporter gene polymorphism (5-HTTLPR) on stress generation and depression among adolescents.
Previous research demonstrates that carriers of the short allele of the serotonin transporter gene (5-HTTLPR) show both greater susceptibility to depression in response to stressful life events and higher rates of generation of stressful events in response to depression. The current study examines relational security (i.e., self-reported beliefs about attachment security) as a moderator of thes...
متن کاملInteraction between the serotonin transporter gene (5-HTTLPR), stressful life events, and risk of depression: a meta-analysis.
CONTEXT Substantial resources are being devoted to identify candidate genes for complex mental and behavioral disorders through inclusion of environmental exposures following the report of an interaction between the serotonin transporter linked polymorphic region (5-HTTLPR) and stressful life events on an increased risk of major depression. OBJECTIVE To conduct a meta-analysis of the interact...
متن کاملGene × environment interaction on intergroup bias: the role of 5-HTTLPR and perceived outgroup threat.
Perceived threat from outgroups is a consistent social-environmental antecedent of intergroup bias (i.e. prejudice, ingroup favoritism). The serotonin transporter gene polymorphism (5-HTTLPR) has been associated with individual variations in sensitivity to context, particularly stressful and threatening situations. Here, we examined how 5-HTTLPR and environmental factors signaling potential out...
متن کاملSerotonin transporter gene polymorphism (5-HTTLPR) and anxiety reactivity in daily life: a daily process approach to gene-environment interaction.
OBJECTIVE To test whether individuals with at least one copy of the short (S) or long (L)(G) allele of the serotonin transporter polymorphism (5-HTTLPR) exhibit greater increases in anxiety, compared with L(A)L(A) individuals, under periods of high daily stress. Although this common polymorphism in the serotonin transporter gene has been identified as a vulnerability factor for anxiety, finding...
متن کاملThe serotonin transporter gene polymorphism 5-HTTLPR moderates the effects of stress on attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.
INTRODUCTION The role of the serotonin transporter gene polymorphism 5-HTTLPR in attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is unclear. Heterogeneity of findings may be explained by gene-environment interactions (GxE), as it has been suggested that S-allele carriers are more reactive to psychosocial stress than L-allele homozygotes. This study aimed to investigate whether 5-HTTLPR genotype...
